The Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Laser rangefinder is a Hybrid Distance Calculating Device that, in all honesty, is on its lane.

It combines the features and technologies of the Laser and GPS to deliver an awesome experience on the golf course.

It is an ideal gadget for hybrid golfers who desire to get more on the course, save time, and generally play better golf.

Look/First Impression.

The First point of attraction for me was the packaging of this device.

Upon unboxing the device, you will notice the outer cover has two beautiful surfaces, a white smooth plastic, and a rubber-like black surface that feels a little softer than the white surface.

On the top are three prominent action buttons with the middle being the power button.

Overall, the Garmin Approach Z82 is portable and a cool piece of equipment to have on the course.

Features/Technologies.

There are several key features in the Gramin Approach Z82 Golf GPS laser rangefinder designed to deliver improved performance over previous models.

Image stabilization: Image stabilization makes it pretty easy to find and lock on the flag even when you have shaky and unsteady hands. This feature is incredibly helpful and our senior golfers who, for the most part, find it a little difficult to maintain steady hands can now enjoy their device without worrying about unstable images.

Performance.

Golf GPS Laser Rangefinder

The Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Laser Rangefinder is a power-performance device packed with cutting-edge technologies and features to deliver smart performance.

With all of the smart features in here, you get to see the distance to the flag, front and back of the green and this is incredible.

And with over 41000 preloaded worldwide courses, you just need to connect to you the Garmin Approach App and select the course you want to play, and boom, you have the entire fairway before you with the driving distance to the flag, back, middle, and front of the green.

Setting up the Garmin Approach Z82 to work with the App, you get to see and enjoy features like a scorecard, wind speed, and direction, find my Garmin in case you misplaced your device somewhere on the course and you can’t find it, and “true” PlaysLike distance direction of the win.

I found Playing with all of these features incredibly satisfying, to say the least.

Other Features of the Z82 Golf GPS and Laser rangefinder include:

Lock On Pin Vibration: This feature makes it pretty easy for the device to find and lock on the pin and gets you notified immediately. You get that instant vibration notifying you that you are locked on.

Also, there is the PlaysLike Distance, a feature that adjusts yardages for uphill or downhill shots based on the change in elevation from where you are standing to the target.

All of these and many other incredible features are designed to get you the result you need to play better and have more fun.

Garmin Approach Z82 Golf GPS Laser VS Garmin Approach Z80 Golf GPS Laser Rangefinder.

So, what is the difference between Garmin Approach Z82 GPS?

So, the Garmin Approach Z82 is an improved version of the Z80 with improved features leading to improved performances as well.

Also, in the Z82, there are a few added features you might not find in the original Z80, features as finding my Garmin which is designed to help you locate your device in case you misplaced it somewhere on the course.

Also, in the Z82, you get the external indicator light for tournaments mode whereas, you don’t get it in the Original Z80 model.

The summary is, that you get everything from the Z80 in the Z82 plus some added advanced features as well.

Pros:

  • The display is accurate at 450 yards-10 inches.
  • Crystal Clear images with the OLED Screen.
  • Extended Battery life compared to the previous model, Z80.
  • Combines both the laser and GPS features.
  • Slope Mode.
  • Turn off slope mode for tournament legal, unlike the previous model.

Cons:

  • The price is quite high. The Garmin Approach Z82 is a high-end product, no doubt, but the pricing is what a lot of folks might find quite disturbing. But at the end, the money bags wins it all.
  • Again, I feel it completely useless to use such a high-end device, especially on courses you are already familiar with as some of the smart features would not be needed during play.
